SENER
http://www.sener.es/

SENER INGENIERIA Y SISTEMAS, S.A. (SENER for short) is established as an entirely Spanish, privately owned Company, devoting its activities to professional consulting and architect-engineering services. These activities extend over a broad field from feasibility and conceptual studies through basic and detailed design and engineering, quality controls, etc., to project management, construction supervision, commissioning and testing.

SENER is a privately owned Company. This independence is one of its major assets. SENER devotes its entire activity to provide consulting and architect engineering services in the broadest sense, from feasibility studies to the delivery of turnkey projects.

SENER was founded in 1956 as a firm of consultant naval architects and has expanded its activity to other industrial fields.

SENER operates as and integrated matrix organization divided in five Divisions being the work of each project assigned according to the capabilities of each Division. The SENER overall engineering capacity is 1 250 000 man-hours per year.

The space activities are carried out in two of these Divisions. The Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Thermal works are performed in the Bilbao Division and the Propulsion, Fluid Dynamics, Software & Control, Electro-optics and Electronics activities in the Aerospace Division (Madrid). The engineering capacity for space activities of these Divisions is 400 000 man-hours per year.

The Aerospace Department has the authority to establish the space policy in coherence with the technical sections capability and also the responsibi-lity for the commercial and contractual aspects.

FAGOR
http://www.ikerlan.es/

FAGOR is an industrial co-operative formed in the Basque region of Spain in 1956, initially to manufacture oil stoves. Today FAGOR's products are sold in 70 countries and FAGOR has over 8,000 co-operative members, organised into four divisions:

  • Home appliances;
  • Industrial components;
  • Automotive components;
  • Engineering capital equipment.

FAGOR is represented in HiPSID by their applied research centre Ikerlan, whose goal is to support and increase the technological sophistication of local industry by transferring technology to companies in the Basque region.

Innovation is extremely important in the European market for consumer durables but new ideas must be developed and exploited rapidly if technical innovation is to product competitive advantages for the resulting products.

IT Innovation Centre
http://www.it-innovation.soton.ac.uk/

The IT Innovation is an independent, professional, not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to identify, evaluate and apply advanced IT systems and software for the benefit of business and industry.

IT Innovation was established in 1991 under the UK government's Parallel Applications Programme (PAP), a shared-cost, shared-risk programme to support the development of industrial and business application software and systems exploiting parallel high performance architectures. Since then the IT Innovation has built up a formidable track record of successful collaboration with industry with significant involvement in the ESPRIT programme, notably in the European Porting Initiative in which IT Innovation played a key role in migrating 4 our of the 38 codes to parallel machines.

More recently, the IT Innovation has recognised that the maximum impact is obtained from HPCN technology when it is integrated within engineering design processes where it can change these processes in fundamental ways. This idea is being pursued through the integration of HPCN software within a wider engineering process, partly through the ESPRIT projects HPC-VAO (design optimisation), TOOLSHED (HPC data handling and analysis) and PROMENVIR (probabilistic risk assessment).

UPC-CEPBA
http://www.cepba.upc.es/

The European Centre for Parallelism of Barcelona (CEPBA) is a centre within the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) with long experience in HPC at all levels from architecture to application porting through system software and tools. This experience has been built on academic and basic research work as well as on a large number of ESPRIT and other industrial projects.

UPC-CEPBA's role in HiPSID is the development of parallel numerical kernels. This work will draw on experience in projects such as GENESIS, IDENTIFY, PERMPAR and SHIPS. IDENTIFY and PERMPAR are examples of the parallelisation of large applications in which UPC-CEPBA has fulfilled a similar role to that envisaged in HiPSID. UPC-CEPBA has expertise in parallelism, numerical methods and solvers and has developed a range of performance analysis and prediction tools which are used to facilitate this work.
