LowRiskDT Project
Expected
Impacts
The work
will advance the state of the art in environmental
protection by providing:
- Information
on the possibility of using abandoned mines for
disposal of hazardous waste exemplifying practical
design principles.
- Information
on the properties and behaviour of waste-isolating
clay and concrete materials and practical ways
of preparing and applying them.
- Clarification
and definition of the chemical conditions in different
parts of the backfilled repositories.
- Information
on the long-term performance of mine repositories.
- Results
of calculations of the transport out of mine repositories
to regional environment of hazardous ions emanating
from dissolved hazardous waste, and quantitative
data on the isolating capacity of reference repositories
in terms of concentration of hazardous ion species
in the environment.
